International Teaching Week: Around 30 lecturers from over 10 countries as guests

For the first time since 2019 and the end of the Corona pandemic, Hof University of Applied Sciences welcomed international guest lecturers for International Teaching Week (ITW) from May 08-12, 2023.

Professors and guest lecturers from our partner universities are guests at Hof University of Applied Sciences and its campuses every two years as part of International Teaching Week. The international lecturers hold lectures and workshops in their respective fields for one week. Students at Hof University of Applied Sciences thus have the opportunity to gain international experience and further their education even without a stay abroad.

A so-called “buddy program”, in which the international lecturers are assigned to their subject counterpart at Hof University of Applied Sciences, enabled an in-depth exchange between the professors with regard to teaching, but also with regard to the initiation of joint projects or research projects.

This year, the guest lecturers came from various countries in Europe, including Italy, the Netherlands and France, the Americas (USA, Mexico, Peru and Brazil), North Africa (Tunisia), Central Asia (Kazakhstan), Asia (Thailand) and India.

Positive feedback

The feedback from the international and Hofer professors involved was extremely positive. Especially after the years of the pandemic, when personal exchange was not possible, the format of the International Teaching Week was a successful way to strengthen existing collaborations and give them new momentum. The personal exchange led to the discussion of a variety of cooperation possibilities – classically in teaching, but also increasingly in new formats such as short-term projects and joint research projects.

The organization was perfect, and for me it has been an amazing educational experience, both from a professional and a personal point of view. I met wonderful colleagues, in a stimulating and proactive environment. I hope that Prof. Karall and his students enjoyed the lectures as much as I did making them: they proved to be a very interactive and curious audience.

The event was accompanied by a comprehensive social program, during which the international guests were able, for example, to get to know the Hof campus and the university’s Maker Space with its innovative possibilities, to visit Dresden or to intensify discussions at a traditional Weißwurst breakfast. In addition, a very exciting tour of the new Amazon logistics center in Gattendorf was on the agenda.
