Modernization boost for the Administrative Informatics degree course

A new learning environment for students of administrative informatics has been put into operation on the university campus in Hof. In the comprehensively modernized facilities, the future IT specialists for the public sector in Bavaria will be prepared using state-of-the-art technology. In particular, the focus is on dealing with rapidly developing AI technologies and the ability to work and learn collaboratively and project-based. With the new learning environment, the University of Applied Sciences for the Civil Service in Bavaria (HföD) and the Hof University of Applied Sciences (HAW Hof) are strengthening the future-oriented IT training of their joint dual study program.

State Secretary of Finance and Home Affairs Martin Schöffel is delighted:

Our future IT specialists will receive an excellent education in a state-of-the-art working and learning environment at the highest level. They will be optimally prepared for their future tasks in public administration. In particular, the modernized premises are equipped with state-of-the-art technology for working with AI. This shows once again that studying administrative informatics in Hof is worthwhile. I would also like to thank the HAW, which, as a cooperation partner of the HföD, has made these rooms available to our students.”

Martin Schöffel, State Secretary

The Head of the Department of General Internal Administration at the HföD in Hof, Christian Rose, explains:

‘The new framework conditions strengthen the already excellent training of our administrative IT specialists and also set standards in a nationwide comparison. This is extremely important for all of us: after all, the demand for specialists with sound expertise in the IT sector is enormous. Modern administration is based on a permanently secure IT infrastructure and increasingly on digital services for citizens. What we have created together with HAW as a reliable cooperation partner in its premises is forward-looking.”

Christian Rose, Head of HföD Hof

Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Jürgen Lehmann, President of Hof University of Applied Sciences, adds:

“With this expansion, we are not only investing in rooms, but above all in the future of administrative informatics and thus in the digitalization of the Free State of Bavaria. The open, modern design creates a friendly learning environment in which students are motivated to work, experiment and develop ideas into functional prototypes.”

Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Jürgen Lehmann

The new AI workspace is a multifunctional workspace that is available to students around the clock. Equipped with high-performance hardware, specialized presentation technology and areas for long-term project setups, it forms the heart of practical training in the fields of artificial intelligence, data science, robotics and IT security. In addition, a scale-up room with multiple uses and state-of-the-art technical equipment offers all the possibilities for teaching and learning content in a modern way. The room contains four flexible learning areas that can be quickly switched between group work mode, presentation forms or frontal teaching. The overall package is rounded off by the expansion of the existing AI infrastructure: a dedicated AI computing node creates the basis for developing your own AI models and gaining practical experience in the field of artificial intelligence.

The dual degree course in Administrative Informatics has been offered since the winter semester of 2001 in cooperation between the HföD Department of General Internal Administration and HAW Hof. This unique course of study forms the basis for IT expertise in the public sector in Bavaria. In the theoretical part of the course, students learn about administration and IT; in regular practical sections, the specialist knowledge can be applied directly in the workplace. The course is regarded as a successful model throughout Bavaria.
