A new student residence operated by the Upper Franconia Student Services Association was officially opened on Schützenstraße in Hof in the presence of Christian Bernreiter, Minister of State for Housing, Construction, and Transportation; Heiko Hain, Member of the Bundestag; Hof’s Mayor Stefan Schmalfuß, District Administrator Dr. Oliver Bär, and many other distinguished guests. A total of 132 modern living spaces are available to students. The price is particularly attractive: A unit costs just 388 euros, including utilities and internet.
As a result, Hof as a college town offers students not only short commutes to the university but also comparatively low living costs.

The residence hall is already in operation: According to the Student Services Organization, 25 rooms are already occupied, and many more have already been rented out. Construction costs amount to approximately 115,000 euros per residence hall bed.
Living in a Location Close to Downtown
The new building was constructed on the edge of the former Hoftex site on Schützenstraße. Riedel Bau handled the project development and turnkey construction. The project was based on a Europe-wide architectural competition, which was won by H2M Architekten & Stadtplaner from Kulmbach. It took only about two years from the purchase of the property to completion. According to the Student Services Organization, the actual construction period was 15 months. A total of approximately 16 million euros was invested.
Hof Remains an Affordable Place to Study
For prospective students, the new residence hall is particularly appealing in terms of monthly costs.

Added to this is affordable public transportation. The Hof University semester ticket costs 61.22 euros for the 2026/27 winter semester. This means students also benefit from the comparatively low costs of transportation at the university’s location.
Good Conditions for Students
With the new dormitory, the Student Services Organization is also expanding the supply of student housing in Hof. Affordable housing is a key factor in choosing a place to study, especially for first-year students and international students.
