Whether it’s the daily struggle with recycling, your favorite spot on campus, or just the usual college craziness—sometimes a meme says more than a thousand words. That’s exactly why Hof University is inviting its students and faculty members to participate in a creative contest this August.

Under the motto “Make Your Campus Laugh!”, self-created memes can be submitted from August 1 through 30, 2026. The campaign is an initiative of the CHANGE IT!-Stud improvement management program, which aims to promote new, humorous perspectives on everyday university life.
Humor Meets Creativity
Participants can choose from three defined themes and one fairly open-ended theme:
- Waste sorting
- Favorite place on campus
- Europe
- The usual college madness…
Memes can be submitted in JPG, PNG, or GIF formats. Entries should be emailed to changeit.stud@hof-university.de.
Attractive prizes await the best entries:
- 1st place: 500 euros
- 2nd place: 300 euros
- 3rd place: 200 euros
Why Memes?
Memes have long been part of everyday digital culture. With just a few images and short texts, they convey ideas, spark reflection, and foster a sense of connection—often with a touch of humor. Good memes are creative, easy to understand, and easy to share. They can spark discussions, grab attention, and bring people together in an entertaining way.
“Community is also built through shared laughter”
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dietmar Wolff, Vice President for Teaching at Hof University of Applied Sciences, sees the competition as much more than just a creative contest:
“Humor is a universal language that connects people. With our meme contest, we want to invite students and academic staff to view everyday university life from a new perspective, contribute creative ideas, and at the same time shed light on important topics such as sustainability or Europe in an entertaining way.”
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dietmar Wolff
The competition is also intended to show that participation doesn’t always have to take place in traditional formats: “Change management thrives on as many people as possible contributing their perspectives. Memes offer the chance to succinctly capture thoughts, experiences, and even small everyday challenges—in a creative, humorous, and accessible way.”
