Prof. Dr. phil. Matthias Drossel takes over teaching area for applied health care
From the winter semester 2022/2023, Prof. Dr. phil. Matthias Drossel will take over the teaching area of applied health care in the Faculty of Interdisciplinary and Innovative Sciences.
After training as a health care worker and nurse, the 38-year-old studied medical education (B.A.) and nursing sciences/pedagogy (MSc.). He successfully completed his doctorate at the Institute for Gerontology and Demography. His last positions before his appointment at the university were a professorship for medical pedagogy at the SRH University of Health and the academy management of the Bamberg Academies for Health and Nursing Professions (shareholders: Sozialstiftung Bamberg, gemeinnützige Krankenhausgesellschaft des Landkreises Bamberg, AWO Bamberg Stadt und Land, GGSD).
In addition, Prof. Drossel is involved as a board member in the Federal Association of Teachers in Health and Social Care and in the Association of Nurses in Bavaria KöR. As editor of the journal “Lehren und Lernen im Gesundheitswesen (LLig)” (Teaching and Learning in Healthcare), he regularly publishes current topics in healthcare.
I am particularly looking forward to educating young people as future bridge builders in the healthcare sector as part of my teaching activities in the bachelor’s degree program “Innovative Healthcare”. The course and the Lucas-Cranach-Campus Kronach are still relatively young and there is a lot of room for development. Here, too, I would like to provide active support.”
Prof. Dr. phil. Matthias Drossel
Prof. Drossel found getting to know the university for the first time during the application process and his appointment very pleasant, thanks to the great support he received from the dean’s office, the faculty secretariat and the HR department. He also emphasizes the collegial interaction at the university.
Dr. Oliver Schuster returns to the university as professor
“It feels like coming home,” says Dr. Oliver Schuster about his return to the university as Professor of IT Management in the Faculty of Interdisciplinary and Innovative Sciences. Dr. Oliver Schuster first studied Business Information Systems at Hof University of Applied Sciences, followed by a Master’s degree in Marketing Management and a cooperative doctorate with the University of Kassel on the topic “Adoption of Digital Communication and Business Services: A Study of European Entrepreneurs” followed. He successfully completed the doctoral thesis in March 2019. His professional career led him to Gamma, based in the district of Hof, where he initially worked as Head of Cloud Solutions. He later took on the role of authorized signatory of the IT division and managing director of the former Gamma Technology GmbH at the company.
With the start of the winter semester 2022/2023, the 39-year-old will now work as a lecturer at his alma mater:
At first glance, not much has changed at the university since I received my doctorate and everything feels familiar. At second glance, however, you quickly notice the development the university has undergone in recent years: there is the new Faculty of Interdisciplinary and Innovative Sciences, a new campus in Kronach, the Maker Space in Hof, and the new building of the Center for Water and Energy Management is under construction. I am very much looking forward to the students as well as to exciting teaching and research tasks at the university.”

Dr. Christoph Koch takes over professorship for Operational Excellence
Prof. Dr. Christoph Koch is another professor starting at the still young Faculty of Interdisciplinary and Innovative Sciences. He will take over the Operational Excellence teaching area from October 01, 2022. Born in Nuremberg, he studied mechanical engineering at Leibniz Universität Hannover until 2011 and earned his doctorate in production management at the Technical University of Hamburg from 2013 to 2016.
The 38-year-old began his professional career at Phoenix Contact before going on to work for Siemens Healthineers from 2017-2021 after completing his doctorate, and for the last two years at Siemens Energy.
Prof. Koch describes the university as a very modern university in a green environment, with very helpful and friendly colleagues – especially in the administration.
To the question “What are you particularly looking forward to in your new job?”, Prof. Koch answers: “To curious students and an exciting exchange as well as the international environment at the university.”
We warmly welcome the new professors to the university and wish them a good start and much joy in their new tasks!
