On September 30, 2023, Prof. Dr. Margarete Blank-Bewersdorff and Prof. Dr. Georg Fischer, two long-time lecturers from the faculties of engineering and economics, will retire.
During a small ceremony, university president Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Jürgen Lehmann thanked them for their commitment and presented the certificates on behalf of the Free State of Bavaria.

Prof. Dr. Margarete Blank-Bewersdorff was appointed to the Faculty of Engineering on September 1, 1999 to teach materials and surface engineering and fundamentals of mechanical engineering. She was instrumental in establishing the course “Materials Engineering”, then “Materials and Surface Engineering”, now part of the Bachelor “Engineering Sciences”, and also headed it for many years. During her career, she gave 24 different lectures and supervised a total of 168 students’ papers. For 20 years, Prof. Blank-Bewersdorff worked for the equality of women at the university as the women’s representative of the faculty or for the whole university (we also reported in campuls).
Recently, Prof. Blank-Bewersdorff owns a house in Spain and commutes diligently between her now three places of residence.

Prof. Dr. Georg Fischer was appointed to the Faculty of Economics on 01.09.2003 for the teaching area “Business Administration, Finance, Controlling and Data Processing”.
Prior to his appointment to Hof, Prof. Fischer was Head of Cost Unit Accounting/Profit Center Accounting of Plants in the Accounting Department at REHAU AG + Co. From 1998 to 2003, he taught at Mittweida University of Applied Sciences as Professor of General Business Administration with a focus on Accounting, Cost and Performance Accounting/Controlling.
“The teaching of cost and activity accounting and SAP software applications in accounting, as well as the contact with the students, has always fulfilled me, as I was able to contribute my professional experience here in particular,” says Prof. Fischer in retrospect.
Now I’m looking forward to spending time with my family, my now 3 grandchildren, our garden, culture and the mountains of South Tyrol.”
