As part of its city lecture series, Hof University of Applied Sciences invites the public to its next event at its Kronach campus. In a lecture titled “Health Meets Computer Science: How Data Is Improving the Medicine of Tomorrow,” Prof. Dirk Reinel from the Institute for Information Systems (iisys) will demonstrate how modern software development and targeted data analysis are helping to advance medical research and healthcare in a sustainable way.
What do a migraine app, nationwide health registries, and the care of children with mild traumatic brain injuries have in common? Behind all these projects lies computer science expertise from Hof. The Analytical Information Systems (AIS) research group at iisys has been developing digital solutions for medical research for many years, working closely with renowned partners such as the German Migraine and Headache Society (DMKG), LMU Medical Center in Munich, and Essen University Hospital.
Nationwide Headache Registry
One of the focal points of the public lecture is the nationwide headache registry of the German Migraine and Headache Society, which helps collect a wide variety of health data on headache disorders. This enables new insights into disease progression, therapies, and the effects of medications. Researchers at iisys are responsible, among other things, for developing software solutions as well as processing and scientifically analyzing the data. The findings are regularly published in international journals and make an important contribution to the evidence-based advancement of medical care.
Children Benefit from Digital Solutions
In addition, the SaVeBRAIN.Kids research project is being presented. In collaboration with the University Hospital Essen, iisys is working on digital solutions to improve care for children with mild traumatic brain injuries. Speaker Dirk Reinel:

City Lectures This Time in Kronach
This time, the City Lecture will take place on the Lucas Cranach Campus in Kronach: Tuesday, October 27, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. It begins with a guided tour at 4:45 p.m., during which Holger Mück will present the “Assistive Systems and Robotics” laboratory at the campus.
The guided tour and City Lecture are free of charge and are specifically aimed at residents of Kronach and the surrounding counties. The public lecture offers an accessible look at how data and computer science can help advance medical research and shape the healthcare system of the future.
