The Competence Network Water and Energy and Hof University of Applied Sciences would like to inform about possible measures with which the region can adapt to climate change and better store existing water. As part of a workshop on July 20, 2023 at 5 p.m. at the Institute for Information Systems at Hof University of Applied Sciences (Room G128/129), different “sponge measures” will therefore be presented with regard to their chances of implementation, possible efficiency and the processes required for this. The free event is aimed in particular at representatives of municipalities, water suppliers, and agriculture and forestry.
“Our workshop is about which concrete measures can prevent the surface runoff of rainwater or reduce its damaging effect,” says Prof. Dr. Günter Müller-Czygan, head of the research project “Spore” at Hof University of Applied Sciences.
For this purpose, four sponge measures will be presented, which will be discussed afterwards:
- Project 1: Rain retention during heavy rain events – support of classical flood protection by decentralized sponge measures in the run-up to flowing waters in communities in agriculture (fields)
- Project 2: Rain retention during heavy rain events: Support of classical flood protection by decentralized sponge measures in the run-up to flowing waters in communities in forestry (forests)
- Project 3: Water retention in the community with measures: Unsealing of areas, retention cisterns, renaturation of streams, small ponds, rainwater harvesting and use of treated wastewater
- Project 4: Rainwater retention and rainwater management in buildings/properties with digital monitoring/control
