The SDC Global Colorist Award is presented by the Society of Dyers and Colourists (SDC) based in the United Kingdom – one of the world’s most respected professional associations in the field of textile chemistry and dyeing. The award recognizes outstanding scientific achievements and innovative contributions by young scientists from around the world in the field of textile dyeing and colour technology. The SDC is particularly active in the Commonwealth countries, where it is intensively involved in training, research and textile testing, especially in the field of color fastness. As an associate member of the international umbrella organization IFATCC (International Federation of Associations of Textile Chemists and Colourists), the SDC underscores its global commitment to promoting the next generation of textile dyers.

Dr. Abate convinced the international jury with his pioneering research work on sustainable dyeing and finishing technologies. His scientific focus is on the development of environmentally friendly, waterless textile processing methods, in particular using supercritical carbon dioxide (CO₂). This innovative technology enables a drastic reduction in water and chemical consumption while simultaneously improving process efficiency and material properties – a decisive step towards resource-conserving and climate-friendly textile production.

With his ability to translate fundamental research findings into practical solutions, Dr. Abate is making a significant contribution to the further development of sustainable textile processes. His achievements reflect Hof University’s commitment to consistently promoting research and innovation in the field of sustainable materials and production technologies.

Even though Dr. Abate did not win the main prize, being a finalist in this top-class international competition is a special distinction and recognizes the scientific excellence and relevance of his research,” says Prof. Dr.-Ing. Valentin Plenk, Vice President Research at Hof University of Applied Sciences.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Michael Rauch, who nominated Dr. Mola Tadesse Abate, emphasizes:

‘The recognition by the SDC shows that our research in Münchberg is attracting international attention. Dr. Abate is exemplary for the claim of combining sustainability and innovation in textile technology,” emphasizes Prof. Dr.-Ing. Michael Rauch, who nominated Dr. Abate for the award.
