Hof University of Applied Sciences recently welcomed a special guest: Prof. Dr. Marcus Martin, dean of the Department of Mathematics, Natural Sciences, and Data Processing at the Technical University of Central Hesse (THM). As part of Prof. Dr. Julia Meister’s data science lecture series, he delivered two guest lectures that generated significant academic interest and also provided impetus for future joint projects.
The focus was on the topic “Machine Learning in Finance.” The first lecture, held in English, was aimed at an interdisciplinary audience as well as international exchange students. Prof. Martin presented current applications of data-driven methods in the financial sector and highlighted their potential as well as the associated challenges.
The second lecture, delivered in German, was offered specifically for students of administrative informatics. It focused on practical application examples and the significance of modern machine learning methods for the public and private financial sectors.

At the same time, the visit provided a valuable setting for professional and personal exchange with researchers from the Department of Computer Science and the Institute for Information Systems (iisys) at Hof University of Applied Sciences. This laid the groundwork for future collaborations with the Technical University of Central Hesse in the fields of data science and artificial intelligence.
Hof University of Applied Sciences looks forward to welcoming Prof. Dr. Marcus Martin and other colleagues from THM to the campus in the future and to further expanding this collaboration.
