Engineering sciences with excellent grades in the CHE Ranking 2025

The engineering programs at Hof University of Applied Sciences have once again achieved excellent results in the current CHE University Ranking 2025. Several degree programs and fields of study are among the highest rated in Germany – further proof of the high quality of technical education at Hof University of Applied Sciences. The CHE ranking is considered one of the most authoritative evaluation systems for universities in the German-speaking world.

The following areas were scrutinized in this year’s ranking:

  • Applied Natural Sciences including the specializations Environmental Engineering (B.Eng.) within the Engineering Sciences (B.Eng.) and Sustainable Water Management and Engineering (M.Eng.)
  • Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, including the specializations Electrical Engineering within the Electrical Engineering course (B.Eng.) program, including the dual study model
  • Mechanical and Materials Engineering, represented by the specializations Mechanical Engineering (B.Eng.) and Materials Engineering (B.Eng.) within the Egineering Sciences program, as well as the programs Innovative Textiles (B.Eng.), Sustainable Textiles (M.Eng.) and Composite Materials (M.Eng.)

In the category “Degrees in a reasonable amount of time”, all participating degree programs achieved the best possible rating. The courses offered by the Faculty of Engineering were also all ranked in the top group nationwide for “Help with starting your studies”. Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering performed particularly well in terms of practical relevance and networking with industry.

High satisfaction among students

According to the survey, students gave their study conditions an above-average positive rating. Particular praise was given to the organization of studies (4.6-4.7 out of 5 points), support for stays abroad (4.6-4.7), support from lecturers (4.2-4.3), general study support (4.3-4.4), examination management (4.1-4.3) and library facilities (4.5-4.6). Digital teaching formats and learning and working spaces also received very solid feedback with 4.0 and 4.2 points respectively.

Voices from the faculty

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Anke Müller, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, emphasizes the commitment of the team:

‘Behind these strong results is the daily work of many dedicated people at our university. My sincere thanks go to them. They ensure that our degree programs remain lively and continue to develop. This is how we can meet our high standards.”

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Anke Müller

She continues: “The ranking confirms that our focus on practical relevance and comprehensive student support at our family university is exactly the right approach. We will continue on this course and continuously develop our offerings.”

University management recognizes the achievements

University President Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Jürgen Lehmann is also extremely satisfied with the performance of the engineering subjects:

The results impressively demonstrate how strong and future-oriented our faculty is. The combination of practice-oriented teaching formats, high quality and intensive supervision is clearly bearing fruit. My congratulations go to everyone involved.”

Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Jürgen Lehmann, President of the University

Orientation for future students

The CHE University Ranking has been providing valuable information for prospective students for many years. The annual publication in the ZEIT Study Guide offers a mixture of statistical data and student assessments. As the focus is on different subject groups each year, engineering courses in particular were examined more closely in 2025. Among other things, assessments of teaching content, supervision, facilities and practical relevance were included in the analysis.
