A bit of East Frisia in Upper Franconia: studying at Hof University

Aleka Briese has decided to study far away from home. Since the current summer semester, she has been studying International Project Management with a specialization in Technical Project Management at Germany’s most popular university. You can read about what she perceives as different here than in East Frisia and what she gives others as a tip at Campuls digital.

She completed her Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering in East Frisia. “The Master’s degree at Hof University of Applied Sciences is designed for engineers – there is only one of its kind at a public university in Germany,” says Aleka Briese. “I first googled where Hof was and thought: so far away?” she explains. But she was convinced by the unique course content and took the plunge to move to Upper Franconia, to the Hof University of Applied Sciences campus.

Her first impression of the city on the Saale: “Hof is a bit too mountainous, but otherwise quite nice,” admits the student openly. In East Frisia, she was used to riding her Dutch bike a lot. She has given that up here since the spring and prefers to walk. “When I started here on my own, I missed my family, friends and the sea,” she adds. But as she walks through Hof University of Applied Sciences, she is relieved to discover a piece of home on campus and smiles.

“It’s a very beautiful, modern and cozy campus. I like the beach chairs on campus – it’s a bit like home with the baskets.”

The seating areas with power sockets are also very pleasant. She has also already tried out a bit of Bavaria: “There was vegan Leberkäse in the fair divider, which I tried – it was delicious!” she adds.

Another plus point: on the International Project Management course itself, the students often work together on projects and you also learn from the more experienced students from the higher semesters.

You can start the Master’s in International Project Management in the winter and summer semesters. It prepares you professionally for the interface between administrative tasks and engineering. Aleka Briese finds “It’s easier if you understand engineers and know the language.” If she hadn’t been offered a place on the course at Hof University of Applied Sciences, she would have studied part-time instead.

“The International Project Management course is super interesting and the exercises are fun because they are very practical. The professors also share anecdotes from the business world in the lectures. This makes it easier to understand the content.”

She has these two tips for other prospective students: It’s better not to take your bike with you and let everything come to you in a relaxed manner.
