A meeting of controllers from Bavarian universities of applied sciences (HaWs) took place at Hof University of Applied Sciences on October 8 and 9, 2025. Ute Coenen, Chancellor of Hof University of Applied Sciences, welcomed 26 participants from 14 universities as well as representatives from the CEUS locations in Bamberg and Regensburg.

A particular highlight of the meeting was the intensive exchange with the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts. The participants were able to directly contribute their requirements and perspectives – an important step towards actively shaping the future direction of university controlling.
The direct dialog with the Ministry was extremely valuable for all participants. Such meetings show how strongly controlling can support the strategic development of our universities – through exchange, transparency and joint solutions.”
Gitti Baumann, Controller at Hof University of Applied Sciences
Exchange of current topics
The meeting agenda included topics such as experiences with the introduction of the SAP system, financial and personnel controlling with CEUS (the controlling and decision-making system of the Bavarian universities, which enables a uniform database and transparent reporting), the implementation of KLR specialist concepts and possible training on the use of artificial intelligence in controlling.

In the “World Café” format, the participants discussed innovative approaches, key figures and management tools – with great commitment and practical examples from the universities, and much more.
Cultural supporting program and collegial finale
The supporting program was also attractive: The program included a visit to the Erika-Fuchs-Haus in Schwarzenbach an der Saale, where the group was also welcomed by Mayor Hans-Peter Baumann. The convivial finale was a meal together at Café Hein and the finale at the student café “Zur Auszeit” – an opportunity to continue the collegial discussions in a relaxed atmosphere.
