How can care for people with dementia and delirium be further improved? Which scientific findings are helpful in everyday nursing practice—and which innovative approaches can be directly applied in practice? These are the questions that will be addressed at the 13th Bamberg Nursing Conference, which will take place on November 16, 2026, at the Bamberg Academies for Health and Nursing Professions. Under the theme “Dementia & Delirium,” the event brings together nursing professionals, researchers, experts from the field of care, and other interested parties.
Hof University of Applied Sciences will be represented in several ways. Prof. Dr. rer. medic. Julia Nagel, professor of nursing with a focus on outpatient and inpatient long-term care and program director at the Bamberg campus, will lead two sessions.
Prevention, Dementia, and Evidence-Based Nursing
At 10:15 a.m., Prof. Dr. Julia Nagel will speak on the topic “Dementia Prevention: What We Can Do Today.” This will be followed by a one-hour role-playing exercise on “Dementia and Evidence-Based Practice.” The session will focus on specific care situations and the question of how scientific findings can be applied to daily work.
For Prof. Julia Nagel, the connection between scientific knowledge and practical application is a central component of professional nursing:

Even beyond Nursing Day, this approach remains at the heart of her work at Hof University of Applied Sciences. The part-time bachelor’s program “Nursing for Experienced Professionals” at the Bamberg campus is designed for already-trained nursing professionals and combines scientific qualifications with the specific demands of clinical practice.
From the Keynote to the Hands-On Workshop
Nursing Day begins at 9:30 a.m. with a welcome address. The program includes, among other things, the keynote address “The Courage to Work Together” by Josef M. Huber, a presentation on delirium management at Neumarkt Hospital, and insights into the work of a multiprofessional team at Stuttgart State Hospital. The lecture program is complemented by workshops, each offered twice.
Topics range from a dementia obstacle course to assistive technologies for dementia and delirium, to the importance of one’s own life story when caring for people with dementia. The workshops can be attended as an alternative to the presentations.
Dignity, Quality of Life, and Professional Care
The Bamberg Care Day aims to combine current scientific findings with proven and innovative approaches to care. The focus is not only on clinical pictures and care concepts, but also on the dignity, individual needs, and social participation of those affected and their families.
Prof. Dr. Julia Nagel also contributes her many years of experience in nursing practice and nursing science. She emphasizes:

The 13th Bamberg Care Day will take place on November 16, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Bamberg Academies for Health and Care Professions, Buger Straße 80, 96049 Bamberg.
