IT-Lounge Vogtland: Hof University of Applied Sciences represented with workshops and lectures

There are around 3 billion gamers worldwide, some of whom even earn millions by “gambling” on video games. The once ridiculed industry of computer games has developed over time into the biggest form of entertainment of the present and future. So it is no wonder that more and more trade fairs and events are dealing with this topic. This was also the case at the IT Lounge Vogtland, where the Hof University of Applied Sciences was also represented in the form of lectures and workshops.

The IT-Lounge Vogtland is an information event about current, digital trends, as well as the latest developments in the IT industry and promotes the exchange between companies, universities, students and pupils.

Lectures and workshops

Hof University of Applied Sciences also successfully participated in this year’s IT Lounge Vogtland.

In the specialist lecture by Prof. Dr. René Peinl, Professor of Computer Science and Business Informatics at Hof University of Applied Sciences, interested parties were able to learn about Artificial Intelligence (AI) in games and for games.

All visitors were able to experience and try out IT live in the Adventure Arena, where Hof University of Applied Sciences was also represented with two workshops. On the one hand, the gaming community eSports Hof presented itself to promote the professional playing of videogames in club and team sports

The founders of the student initiative, Prof. Dr. Sven Rill and Vincent Tischler, as well as students of the Mobile Computing course and other members of the Esports initiative were represented. Of course, all visitors were also allowed to try out the game for themselves in a sporting team competition “2 against 2” or “3 against 3”. The competitions were simultaneously broadcast live on a screen.

“Experiencing computer science – from micro:bit to NAO6” was the topic of the second workshop led by Prof. Dr. Sebastian Leuoth, Professor of Computer Science and Administrative Informatics at Hof University of Applied Sciences

In this seminar, students, pupils and interested people from companies in the region could get to know the micro:bit, a small computer with built-in sensors, create their own programs and use them to realize small applications in the real world as well. Furthermore, the participants could program the small robot NAO6, which can walk and also talk.

Exchange in presence

After numerous online events, an exchange in presence was possible at the IT-Lounge Vogtland for the first time in a long time.

My colleagues, our students from the Hof University of Applied Sciences and of course I really enjoyed the IT-Lounge Vogtland this year. In the workshops there was plenty of opportunity to discuss various topics with interested visitors. Trends in IT, to touch and experience, were part of the seminars.”

Prof. Dr. Sven Rill, co-organizer of the IT Lounge Vogtland
