After 18 years at Hof University of Applied Sciences: Prof. Dr. Hans Schmidt retires

A pillar of teaching at Hof University of Applied Sciences is beginning a new chapter in his life: Prof. Dr. Hans Schmidt, a lecturer for many courses since 2003, especially in the field of chemistry, and chairman of the university senate for twelve years, has now been given a well-deserved retirement by President Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Jürgen Lehmann into a well-deserved retirement. His activities included the establishment of the environmental engineering course, of which he was the head.

“With you, Hof University of Applied Sciences loses a highly committed lecturer and scientist. I sincerely thank you for your achievements over the past almost two decades,” said University President Prof. Lehmann in recognition of the career of the university lecturer based in Middle Franconia. After studying chemistry at the University of Bayreuth, Prof. Dr. Hans Schmidt initially worked in the field of ceramic materials and in the recycling of inorganic substances before finally moving to Hof University of Applied Sciences:

Room for co-design

“Our university was and is a manageable university that is still developing and growing. It offers faculty members very productive opportunities for co-creation in the teaching field. You could and still can get to know many people from across the university personally, and the size allows you to work with students more intensively. In retrospect, they were very pleasant years,” says Prof. Dr. Hans Schmidt.

Continuing to monitor development

Prof. Dr. Schmidt has been able to help shape Hof University itself through a large number of memberships in examination boards as well as the Faculty Council for Engineering Sciences and the University Council. For the future, he wishes “his” Hof University much success in mastering the challenges ahead: “The further expansion of the university into a GreenTech University, i.e. also new courses of study, new buildings and also the increasingly IT-supported teaching still offer many exciting development opportunities. I will be very happy to follow this from a distance – I live on the Franconian Lake District.” Asked about the highlights of his work at Hof, he doesn’t have to think long

The job of university lecturer, i.e. imparting knowledge to students, is in itself a real highlight.”

Hof University of Applied Sciences wishes Prof. Dr. Hans Schmidt all the best for the new phase of his life.
