President’s Editorial: Historic high in research projects

Dear readers,

with the articles now available in our “campuls-digital”, we would like to inform you once again about the activities of our Hof University of Applied Sciences, which fortunately has many interesting developments to report, even at the height of the Corona pandemic.

At this time, I feel as probably many of you do: personally, as part of the post-war generation, I can hardly remember a situation that was more challenging and difficult to cope with. The virus still has us in its grip, which is why our teaching has been almost exclusively online for months now. This situation is undoubtedly stressful for everyone involved, and yet it demonstrates our educational institution’s ability to act quickly and its digital literacy.

Lively research activity

Especially in this context, I am enormously pleased that our university is working together with the Bavarian university hospitals and the Robert Koch Institute, among others, on the implementation of the large Bavarian vaccination study CoVaKo 2021 and can thus contribute valuable findings for overcoming the crisis. It is an honor for us that the Free State of Bavaria and the project partners are relying on the expertise of the Institute for Information Systems (Iisys) in this important issue.

In general, I am very pleased to see that the research we do is increasingly shaping the positive image of our university and contributing to its success.

Highest number of projects

Not without reason: Hof University of Applied Sciences currently has an all-time high in research projects – never before in its history has more research been funded and more innovation been implemented. Another positive example will certainly be the Competence Center for Digital Administration, which is currently being established and for which the Upper Franconia Foundation recently promised more than half a million euros in funding. The goal of all our projects is not only to be worked out in theory, but later to be implemented in practice, thus bringing high benefits to the economy and the general public. To this end, we work with well-known companies that support us and at the same time benefit from our expertise – a wonderful example of this is the recently opened “MakerSpace”, a real ideas workshop for tinkerers and inventors.

Strengthening research marketing and external image

In order to promote this great development and communicate it to the outside world accordingly, we have significantly strengthened research marketing and also reporting on ongoing projects in recent months. Now, for the same reason, the focus of the present “campuls-digital” is also dedicated to this topic. In addition, I would also like to draw your special attention to the information on our new study programs. A lot is happening and there are many good reasons to be more optimistic about the future

I hope you enjoy reading this issue and wish you all a successful 2021 –
please stay healthy!

Yours sincerely

Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. Jürgen Lehmann
