Hof University eSports semester opening – digital team spirit and a passion for gaming

The eSports organizational unit, as part of the student representation, kicked off the new university year with an energetic semester opening. The teams also presented themselves to many new students in the popular games CS2, Valorant, League of Legends, Rocket League and Overwatch – and impressively demonstrated that eSports has long been more than just a leisure activity: It stands for teamwork, strategy, concentration and fair play.

A special moment of the evening was the farewell to the previous CS2 team leader Kevin Pertek, whose team has made it into the first division of the university league – making it one of the top 7 universities in Germany. “This achievement underlines how professional and committed the eSports scene at Hof University of Applied Sciences has become after just a few years,” said the supervising professor Sebastian Leuoth. He continues: “eSports as a modern, dynamic university sport has quickly found its place on campus”.

Around 45 students are now involved in 7 teams and around 15 people are active as helpers in eSports.

After exciting games, the university’s GameDev initiative was also presented at the semester opening. This consists of students who get together at the weekend and program games in the form of game jams.

After the official part, the event invited people to play games together – both digital and analog. In rooms B114 and B109, people gambled, laughed and made new contacts. The connecting corridor provided a chill-out area, beanbags and sponsored drinks for relaxed breaks.
