Transformation through cooperation – thinking ahead together in energy management

The second network meeting of the EnerNET project in the field of energy management took place on July 17, 2025. The host and organizer was the Institute for Hydrogen and Energy Technology (iwe) at Hof University of Applied Sciences.

The EnerNET project is managed by iwe and consists of three individual networks: local and district heating, air conditioning and refrigeration technology and energy management. It offers specialists from these areas various free training courses and the opportunity to network. EnerNET is funded by the European Social Fund Plus (ESF ) and the Upper Franconia Foundation.

Participants from science, local authorities and industry took the opportunity to network and exchange ideas. The focus was on current developments, challenges and innovative solutions in the field of energy management as well as opportunities for cooperation.

After the welcome and introduction of the university by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Tobias Plessing, the iwe project manager presented current content in energy management and general global future prospects for climate research. Michael Dölz (iwe) then presented various opportunities for cooperation between companies and universities, in particular with the iwe.

A highlight of the network meeting was the tour of the new iwe building, which is nearing completion. Before this 45-minute tour, Robin Fick (iwe) presented the technical details of the building in a lecture with a live 3D presentation. Among other things, his research results from his doctorate on storage technology and storage simulation for the multiple use of renewable energy sources were also included here. It became clear how the individual components are coordinated to ensure an efficient and sustainable energy supply.

Despite the capricious weather on the day, the event was a complete success thanks to the help of many of the university’s participants and did not end until well after 8 pm. The “barbecue in the iisys courtyard” spontaneously became a “barbecue buffet in the iisys foyer”.

Special thanks to all speakers. We would also like to thank all participants for the valuable discussions and the exciting exchange on site.
