Hof University of Applied Sciences and its cooperation partners invite you to the European Forum “Europe – We have the choice!” on Thursday, May 23, 2024 at 7 p.m. in the Audimax of Hof University of Applied Sciences (Alfons-Goppel-Platz 1). On June 9, the elections to the European Parliament will take place in Germany. How social, secure, free or sustainable should Europe be? What is the significance of the fundamental values enshrined in the EU Treaty, such as human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law and solidarity?
The European Forum, which Hof University of Applied Sciences is organizing together with Frankenpost, the City of Hof and the Partnership for Democracy in the City of Hof, aims to focus on current issues in the European Union.
No matter what kind of EU we want: In the European elections, we can have a say in how the community of 27 member states should develop. We want to inform and talk about this.”
Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Jürgen Lehmann, President of the University
The Europaforum sees itself as an information event for citizens with short presentations, personal impulses and panel discussions. Prof. Dr. Martin Wachovius, an expert in public law, will begin by discussing the values of the German Basic Law, which Prof. Dr. Peter Schäfer will supplement with the values of the EU in his contribution.
Challenges and “permanent crisis mode”
Dr. Franziska Dornig from the Protestant Education and Conference Centre in Bad Alexandersbad then looks at the political trials of the EU and the current “permanent crisis mode” of the community with regard to current conflicts such as the war in Ukraine, the relationship with Russia and the tensions in the Middle East. Christina Hechtfischer from MERAXIS AG will then look at the advantages of the EU’s free movement of persons for the mobility of skilled workers in the EU’s internal market. Finally, Dr. Andy Gradel will present the “Hydrogen Region Bavaria-Bohemia”, a brand new European cooperation of Hof University of Applied Sciences.
Personal experiences with the EU
The event will also be rounded off with a few accounts of personal experiences with the EU. Shantall Marucia Cisneros Saldana from the Institute for Information Systems (iisys), Juan Jesús Vázquez Campos (International Office) and the winner of the City of Hof 2022 Integration Award, Gowtham Buvalli Chikkathammaiah (iisys), will share these with the visitors before they finally meet for a stand-up reception in the foyer of Hof University of Applied Sciences.
The event will be hosted by Marcel Auermann, Editor-in-Chief of Frankenpost, Editor-in-Chief of the Hof, Coburg, Suhl and Bayreuth Publishing Group (HCSB).
