60 participants: 27th IT Manager Meeting Hochfranken attracts with exciting presentations

On Thursday, 14.11.2024, 60 IT managers met for the 27th IT Manager Meeting Hochfranken at the Institute for Information Systems at Hof University of Applied Sciences (iisys). The focus of the networking event, which was once again organized by iisys and Florian Pöhner from Lamilux, was the exchange of information and experiences from the respective fields of activity.

Dr. René Peinl, professor at the Faculty of Computer Science at Hof University of Applied Sciences and research group leader at iisys, opened the meeting with the topic of “Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)”. With the help of this technology, modern chatbots combine the ability of a language model to generate text (generation) with a query of information (retrieval). This allows chatbots to be tested and improved more efficiently. Prof. Peinl took a particularly close look at the possibilities of working with chatbots enriched with company knowledge.

Prof. Dr. Tobias Bocklet from Nuremberg Institute of Technology then presented the Cooperative Technology Transfer Center Upper Franconia (TTZ), which is operated jointly by the universities of Coburg and Nuremberg at the Lichtenfels and Kronach sites. The TTZ aims to strengthen the innovative power of SMEs in rural areas.
“AI lives from data. We have AI expertise, the companies have the data. This makes us the ideal partner for applied projects,” emphasized Prof. Bocklet.

Daniel Wicher and Diana Grillmeier from ProComp Professional Computer GmbH demonstrated an AI chatbot for knowledge management, particularly in onboarding, in their presentation “Knowledge logistics live: AI bot “KI-tty” in action”.

Finally, Bernd Rücker from TeleSys Kommunikationstechnik GmbH spoke about communication with Microsoft Teams in companies in his presentation “Modern telephony systems using Microsoft Teams as an example” .

We have noticed in practice that the early involvement of knowledge or consultants can prevent many obstacles in the implementation of IT changes and make a much smoother transition possible.”
