Students at Hof University of Applied Sciences will be able to attend courses in the new Vishay lecture hall from the winter semester 2022/23. The manufacturer of electronic components from Selb is thus expanding its cooperation with the local educational institution.
Last Wednesday, the former lecture hall A204 in university building A officially became the Vishay lecture hall. After a welcome to the invited guests by university president Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c.. Jürgen Lehmann, the supporting company explained its motivation for the cooperation:
More skilled workers needed
“By sponsoring the new lecture hall, we want to deepen and expand our long-standing cooperation with Hof University of Applied Sciences. As early as 2006, the first dual student from Hof University of Applied Sciences received practical training with us, and since then there have been 19 more students in a wide variety of training fields. Countless interns and working students have also worked for us.” And further
However, we will need even more well-trained university graduates from the region in the future in order to meet the global demand for electronic components in all areas.”
Martina Winterwerber, Vice President Human Resources Europe at Vishay Electronic GmbH.
Prof. Dr. Dietmar Wolff, Vice President Teaching at Hof University of Applied Sciences, went on to give an insight into what the lecture halls of the future will be capable of and what equipment they will have to offer. The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Anke Müller, also used the example of the engineering course to show how the cooperation between Hof University of Applied Sciences and the local economy can look. At Vishay Electronic GmbH, the values that the university and the company stand for are particularly appreciated
Our company culture is very open, honest, non-political and values integrity. Dr. Zandmann – the founder of Vishay – created a family atmosphere through his leadership that continues today. This is also a hallmark of Hof University.”
Lori Lipcaman, CFO Vishay
In addition to sponsoring the new lecture hall, the company supports, among others, the student initiative HofSpannung e.V. as one of the three largest sponsors and is also present at many events at Hof University.
University president pleased with cooperation
University President Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Jürgen Lehmann is pleased about the commitment of the business community: “Within the framework of such cooperations, we work together with numerous companies that are potential employers for our future graduates.” He continues
With the additional revenue generated, the university can finance its own measures, which the state budget does not cover and which benefit the students for a continuous improvement of the study conditions.”
Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Jürgen Lehmann
About Vishay:
Wherever something is controlled by electric current, Vishay’s products can be found: This is where you build the “DNA of tech.” The company produces semiconductors and electronic components. Vishay has 50 sites in 23 countries and employs more than 23,000 people worldwide. It achieves sales of over $3 billion in the process. In 2022, the company will celebrate its 60th anniversary. The site in Selb, Upper Franconia, was founded by the Rosenthal company, which is why there is still a strong connection to ceramics today. Ceramics are the basic material for those components that are produced in Selb: Resistors and capacitors. In mathematical terms, there is at least one Vishay component in every smartphone worldwide. Without the company’s – often tiny – components, no smartphone, PC or car would function.
