Hof University of Applied Sciences is calling on its students and employees to actively participate in the “Drinking Culture” project. The research project uses a local example to investigate how drinking water stations are used and perceived, thereby setting an example for sustainability and more conscious use of resources.
With the Drinking Culture project, Hof University of Applied Sciences and the Institute for Sustainable Water Systems (inwa) want to research the general acceptance and use of drinking water stations in public spaces. The free drinking water station in Building B of Hof University of Applied Sciences offers the university community fresh tap water – as a healthy and environmentally friendly alternative to bottled drinks.
We want to find out how the station is used and which factors influence its attractiveness, and the results should help to develop sustainable solutions for future locations.”

Your opinion counts!
The study relies on the involvement of students, researchers and employees: interview appointments will be arranged individually and online questionnaires will be sent to participants by email.
We are also planning to be present in selected lectures and during lunch breaks to show the QR code for the questionnaire and recruit participants directly.”
Nellie Platzer and Christian Ockert, Master’s students and project managers
The results should help to promote sustainable alternatives such as tap water, develop proposals for new locations for drinking water stations and devise measures to make their use even more attractive.
The “Drinking Culture” project at aglance
Drinking Culture is a project that combines scientific research with practical approaches to sustainability: By January 2025, a comprehensive study is to be produced that analyzes usage and consumption patterns at the drinking water station. In addition to the frequency of use, the focus is also on social and cultural influences on drinking behavior. Dr. Julia Frank emphasizes:
“Our aim is to make water visible not only as a vital resource, but also as a unifying element of the community.”

The project in the Master’s degree course in International Project Management is being carried out as part of the module “Management of Project Groups” with Prof. Dr. Manuela Wimmer, supported by a team of ten Bachelor’s students in engineering.
