Neuenhauser Automation, based in Naila in the Hof district, is supporting Hof University of Applied Sciences with a high-quality in-kind donation for teaching and research: The company is providing the university with a Mitsubishi RV-5AS-D collaborative industrial robot, complete with a controller, handheld terminal, and pneumatic gripper.


The robot has a reach of 910 millimeters and a payload of five kilograms; thanks to its collaborative design, it can be operated safely without a safety fence. The original price of the system was in the five-figure range.

New Opportunities for Education and Research
In the future, the robot system is to be used in various areas of teaching—including laboratory courses as well as for project and thesis work in the fields of robotics, automation technology, and multi-body simulation. In addition, the system opens up new perspectives for research projects, for example in the field of kinematic calibration to improve the positioning accuracy of robots. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Marcel Huptych, Department of Industrial Robotics and Automation Technology at the Faculty of Engineering, is delighted with the donation:
“With the new robot, our students will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with modern industrial automation technology. At the same time, we are creating excellent conditions for innovative research in the field of robotics.”

Open access for university members interested in robotics
The robot will be permanently stationed in robotics lab C009R in the machine hall at Hof University of Applied Sciences and, following appropriate training, will be made available to as many university members as possible. In addition to professors, laboratory engineers, research assistants, and students can also use the system for teaching and research purposes. “With this donation, we aim to inspire young talent early on in modern automation and robotics technologies while simultaneously supporting practical training at Hof University of Applied Sciences. Collaborative robotics, in particular, is becoming increasingly important in industrial applications. We are therefore very pleased that the system will be available to students and researchers for a wide range of projects in the future,” concludes Volker Roßner, Managing Director of Neuenhauser Automation.
