Textiles rethought: Textiles are not only used for clothing, but increasingly also for textile construction and space travel through to armaments. And it should also be sustainable. “Textiles are Münchberg and Münchberg is textiles,” says Prof. Dr. Frank Ficker, extending a warm invitation to the town lecture in the Münchberg Schützenhaus (Thursday, October 16, 5.30 p.m.).

At the Münchberg site, Frank Ficker, Head of the Institute of Materials Science (ifm), works with a team of almost 40 people on other promising topics such as medical products, high-performance materials for aerospace – and it should also be beautiful. “Global sustainability efforts also keep us on our toes,” says Alexandra Luft, who works as a research group leader at ifm. When it comes to recycling topics, the focus is on more complex applications with valuable fibers.
Top-class textile research
The city lecture shows what exactly is being researched at the Münchberg site. The well-known event format of Hof University of Applied Sciences is making a stop in Münchberg this time. From microscopically small to almost endless fiber structures made from renewable or fossil raw materials or even stones and metals – there is a lot to talk about. The challenges and research topics never end, even with millennia-old technologies such as spinning or weaving.
