Student excursion: “Sustainable Water Management and Engineering” Master’s program visits Hof wastewater treatment plant

At the beginning of December, a group of students from the “Sustainable Water Management and Engineering” Master’s degree course visited the Hof wastewater treatment plant. Prof. Günter Müller-Czygan, head of the course, showed them the most important equipment, wastewater treatment processes and the SCADA control system during a tour.

The Hof wastewater treatment plant is part of the Saale wastewater association, which manages and maintains the main collection plant that supplies around 5.29 million people from various neighboring towns and municipalities as well as industrial and commercial companies in the catchment area.

In the sewage treatment plant, the wastewater goes through several purification stages in order to properly remove pollutants and contaminants.

The excursion closes the gap between theoretical knowledge and understanding and actual application and offers insights into the problems and solutions in sustainable water management.

The Faculty of Engineering offers its students excursions every semester to ensure a high level of practical relevance in their studies.
