Textiles to Touch and Take Home – University High-Tech at the Münchberg City Festival

When the downtown area of Münchberg once again transforms into a lively festival zone on June 13 and 14, 2026, Hof University—with its Münchberg campus—will be right in the thick of things. With a diverse program centered on textiles, the university will showcase its practical, innovative, and—above all—hands-on approach.

Not only in the evenings but also during the day, the Münchberg City Festival once again attracts thousands of visitorsand Hof University will also be on-site; Image: muenchberg.de;

The Münchberg campus has always stood for forward-looking degree programs in the field of textile technology and design. It is precisely this combination of tradition and innovation that comes to life at the city festival. Visitors gain exciting insights into study opportunities and current developments—from sustainable materials to high-tech textiles.

Personalized eyeglass cleaning cloths

A special highlight awaits guests right at the Hof University of Applied Sciences booth: In the first hands-on activity, visitors can become part of a creative process themselves. Photos taken on-site are immediately printed onto special sublimation paper and then transferred onto polyester eyeglass cleaning cloths using a transfer press. The result is a unique souvenir to take home—personal, practical, and technologically exciting all at once.

“What am I actually wearing?”

The second activity brings science to life: Using a portable IR spectroscope, experts scan visitors’ clothing. Whether cotton, polyester, or blended fabrics—within seconds, it becomes clear what materials make up your outfit. A fascinating glimpse into the world of modern material analysis.

“Our goal is to spark enthusiasm for textile technologies and to show how versatile and forward-looking this field is, which is often associated only with clothing. We especially want to inspire young people to explore our degree programs and perhaps even find their career path within them.”

Prof. Dr. Anett Matthäi

The Hof University of Applied Sciences booth invites visitors to discover, try out, and participate on both days of the festival. Whether you’re interested in technology, a family, or simply curious—science becomes tangible here, and textile innovation comes to life. A visit is well worth it—not only for a personal keepsake but also for exciting insights into an industry with a bright future.
