Pharmaceutical residues, household chemicals and other trace substances enter the water cycle via the sewage system and, as an invisible danger, represent a growing toxicological challenge for the environment and health. The city lecture at Hof University of Applied Sciences on 6 November in Münchberg (Schützenhaus, Hofer Str. 69) will shed light on the risks these substances pose to the environment and health and what innovative approaches are available to minimize them.

Hof University of Applied Sciences is addressing the hot topic of “water” in its eleventh city lecture on November 6. The focus is on the question: How can pollutants be effectively contained – and which innovations can help?
The speaker is Prof. Dr. Tobias Schnabel, who has been responsible for the subject of “Urban Water Resource Management” at Hof University of Applied Sciences since 2022. Born in Gotha, he is researching new ways to purify water – and will be presenting exciting approaches in Münchberg: from innovative sanitation systems that prevent pollution at source to highly efficient processes such as advanced oxidation processes (AOP), which can eliminate even substances that are difficult to break down.
Our goal is the sustainable and safe use of water as a valuable resource.”
Prof. Dr. Tobias Schnabel
This is the second time that the popular event format of Hof University of Applied Sciences has come to Münchberg – and promises an evening full of ideas on how water can be protected for future generations.

City lecture by Hof University of Applied Sciences in Münchberg
Hof University of Applied Sciences is tasked with having an impact on society as part of its “third mission”. This third pillar stands directly alongside the other two, namely teaching and research. “Especially in today’s increasingly flattened and brutalized public debate, we as a university want to bring complex and reflective thoughts back to the citizenry,” says Prof. Dr. Valentin Plenk, Vice President for Research, Development and Entrepreneurship and responsible for the city lectures. The aim is to show that a serious, scientific discourse does not necessarily have to be boring and incomprehensible. The very successful series of City Lectures to date have shown that this is indeed possible. “We are looking forward to Münchberg and the beautiful ambience of the newly renovated Schützenhaus,” says Plenk.
Hof University of Applied Sciences cordially invites you to the next free “City Lecture” on Thursday, November 6 from 17:30-19:00. The event is explicitly aimed at the citizens of the city, the surrounding districts and also the students and employees of Hof University of Applied Sciences at the Münchberg site. The venue is the Schützenhaus, Hofer Str. 69, 95213 Münchberg.
A maximum of 150 people can attend, the order of registration applies. The event is free of charge, drinks and snacks are self-pay.
